School year 2021
Even in Bung, a remote village in Solu Khumbu (Everest region), the school was closed for most of the year. Due to the lack of
digital devices and an inadequate power grid, it is not possible to teach the students digitally. The teachers tried as best they
could to keep in touch with home visits. Books and notebooks that were distributed to the children were financed through
donations from our association.
"Give hope" campaign
Although there were no infected people in Bung itself, public life came to a standstill here too. The market in the next larger
village was not allowed to take place and there were many restrictions in the district capital Salleri. Many people lost their
earning potential because, for example, they could not sell their harvest or their labor was no longer needed as porters, in the
tourism sector, etc. In order to alleviate at least the first need, the village community organized a food campaign thanks to our
donations.
Financing of school clothes
The Weltladen Ludwigsburg once again supports the village community in Bung. The association in Bung has decided together
with the parents to finance the school clothes for the coming school year, as it is hardly possible for many families to pay for
school clothes in addition to exercise books and books due to the financial losses caused by the pandemic.
“Scholarship” for training as a nurse
Sangita Khadka from Bung, who is currently in the 12th grade of a school in Kathmandu and has so far been supported by a
school sponsorship from a New Zealander, would like to subsequently train as a nurse. We got to know Sangita during a trip to
Nepal as a 15 year old, ambitious and socially committed young person. The family, which has six other children, cannot finance
the costs of the four-year training with boarding school attendance. At the general meeting of our association we agreed that this
wish is worth supporting.
