It is not always easy to maintain close contact with our partners in Bung. Often times, the power goes out so that cell phones cannot
be charged or the internet connection does not work. But we got positive reports again and again. In Bung - far from the capital
Kathmandu and other larger cities - no infection is known to date. But there is still a strict lockdown, so that the residents of Bung are
not even allowed to sell their crops in the nearby market.
However, since most of the residents are self-sufficient, there is enough food available. The school also had to close. "Home
schooling" is only possible to a very limited extent, as the schoolchildren have long journeys to school and there are hardly any
opportunities for contact. This year we are supporting particularly needy pupils by financing school materials, etc. and building a new
school toilet. The work has already started. Schools in Nepal have also been closed since March because of Covid 19. Through Ram
Basnet, our very reliable contact person in Bung, we are kept up to date on a regular basis: The school supplies the children with
teaching materials. The teachers have contact with their students through home visits and can thus provide support with learning,
since most parents are not able to do so. Online classes are not possible due to frequent power outages and inadequate internet
access. This year we were asked for decent toilets, which had been put on the back burner in the reconstruction work. With another
donation from the Ludwigsburg Weltladen, this wish could be fulfilled. Separate toilets for boys and girls with water connections were
built. This achievement is of great help, especially for the girls - and of course the teachers too.
